Charles Stanley - False Teacher

Brothers and sisters, I often listen to a prerecorded radio broadcast on the internet. During a break, Charles Stanley speaks. Yesterday it was about homosexuality. Something did not set right with my spirit. I felt compelled to type out the recorded script from online. After I did so, I felt I should address the evil teaching. This is something I greatly dislike doing. It is very time consuming and I feel like I am putting a drop of water on a house fire.

As I warn regularly, I would like for you to see the danger in trusting teachers. I was extremely disappointed in Charles Stanley's message. You will see how easy it is to listen to a teacher without realizing he is not teaching sound doctrine, but adding his own words which contradict the scriptures. I was shocked at how he added and distorted the scriptures.
I strive to be a Berean.

Black words are Charles Stanley.
Blue words are from myself. Warren.
Red scriptures are those quoted by both Charles Stanley and myself, Warren.

Speaking of a man who emailed him with a question about homosexuality, Charles Stanley says:

(Charles) “He states that he is a gay Christian and he does not believe it’s a sin.

(Warren) As you read on do not forget the man Charles Stanley is addressing, is living in sin. he is practicing sin. At least the man believes there is sin. In his response, Charles Stanley does not mention sin, repentance, evil or judgment)

(Charles) Now what is he doing? He’s going by his beliefs and his feelings. And so we have to ask is this, are you going to be governed by what you feel, or by what the Word of God says?

(Warren) He is assuming this practicing homosexual is a Christian!!

(Charles) What does God say about this? And in Romans chapter 1, here is what he says - In verse 26 here’s one of the strongest things God says:

  • (Charles) For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions for their women exchanged the natural  function for that which is unnatural. And in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another. Men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

(Charles) Now, if you’ll go to 1 Timothy for example, and the 1st chapter, listen to what the scripture says, because we’re talking about what God thinks, not what somebody else thinks. What does God say about this?  Now, I want you to see what the traveling companions of homosexuality is like.

(Warren) Because he does not believe the scriptures as written, he is reasoning with a lost man who is not convicted of his sin. But Charles Stanley has already addressed the man as a Christian, which could leave the man "two fold the child of hell" as he is lost, but Charles Stanley addresses him as being saved, so he has no need of a savior now!

  • (Warren) Before we go to verse 10 which he quotes, we see he ignored verse 9 in 1st Timothy -   "9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for man slayers."   Charles Stanley is telling this ungodly, practicing homosexual he is a Christian!
(Charles) And here’s what he (God) says:"10 And immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching according to this glorious gospel."

(Charles) Put’s it all together. Then I want you to go if you will to 1 Corinthians the 6th chapter and here is the question, in the 9th verse, 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither fornicators or adulterers, nor effeminate nor homosexuals, nor thieves nor the covetous nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the Kingdom of God.

(Warren) But Charles Stanley does not quote 1 Corinthians 6:11  11And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

(Charles) It is very, very clear - God does not agree with the lifestyle of a homosexual,

(Warren) Where did he get lifestyle? He is redefining sin as lifestyle!! He is "seeker sensitive" and  will not tell this man the truth! This man is headed for hell!

(Charles) because God gives the power not only to save us, but he empowers us to live a Godly life. So when he says this in 1 Corinthians chapter 6 to answer your question “can a person who is a homosexual go to heaven?” If they have been saved by the grace of God, yes.

(Warren) What? We did not read that in the verses quoted. Grace does not cover sin! We read they will not inherit the Kingdom of God

(Warren) The rest of this has nothing to do with the scriptures quoted. Charles Stanley then very quickly, like Osteen, adds his own words which are pure confusion and non scriptural words. Man's opinions!
(Charles) But as he says they forsake, What?? that is they lose their reward, What? they do not inherit what God intends. What? Not only that there is no peace, no joy, no happiness, no matter what they say. What? And medical research has proven, What?? absolutely, unquestionably that a person can be free from homosexuality if they want to.

(Warren) Who cares about what medical research says about sin? What happened to God? It appears Charles looks to medical research as Christ words are not enough!!!

(Charles) For example, it comes down to a matter of abstaining from immoral activity.

(Warren) What about salvation?!! Homosexuals and all who are committing sexual sins are under the power of sin and need a savior who delivers from sin.

(Charles) just like any other single person would. What??A person’s single, they have the privilege and the power by the Holy Spirit, What?

(Warren) Who is he to say they have the Holy Spirit while continuing in homosexuality when Jesus says they will be in a lake that burns with fire and sulfur, and the 2nd death?

(Charles) to abstain from immoral activities. It is a choice a person makes.

(Warren) Without repentance (turning from sin) and obedience and the new birth, the lost have no power over sin but are slaves to sin. We are told by Jesus "unless a man is born from above he cannot see the Kingdom of God. John 3:3

(Warren) Brothers and sisters, the American churches are in much worse condition than we think. The Watchmen are not warning. They themselves are deceived and give people assurance of salvation while they practice things the scriptures tell us keep people out of the Kingdom of God. Does it make sense now why his church is so large? Ear tickling!

Per Jesus the Messiah's words in Revelation 21: 7The person who conquers will inherit these things. I will be his God, and he will be my son. 8But people who are cowardly, unfaithful, detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars will find themselvesb in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”

Note: After writing this and looking more closely at what Charles Stanley said and what Jesus said above, I believe Charles Stanley is clearly a false teacher. I do not pass judgment on his salvation, but we are commanded by Jesus to 24"Stop judging by appearances, but judge with righteous judgment!” .

Jesus loves this homosexual as he loves the world, but Jesus is Holy and a Righteous judge. If this homosexual and each of us do not turn from our sin and obey the gospel, we will perish. Charles Stanley needs to repent or he will have blood on his hands for deceiving people. Until then, this man cannot be trusted. I cried over this while in prayer this morning.

  1. your comments above are not accurate. you may not have seen the full video (Charles Stanley talk on homosexuality of a woman's son on utube (video dated October 11, 2012). He specifically address the sin of homeosexuality citing Romans 1 and 1st Corinthians. No false teacher here. I suggest you take a look at vidio again.

  2. Thank you for taking the time to comment. I actually took his words, word for word as they were recorded and I was able to be perfectly accurate. www.trunews.com played Mr. Stanley on a break and I was able to go over it accurately. I would submit to you that the vast majority of Christians do not challenge the words of the teachers. Actually almost never. Mr. Stanley gives so very much of his own opinions, you and I cannot judge his words as we are told to do. As I listened to his recording, I sensed in my spirit something very wrong. I told the Lord I did not want to spend my time judging the preachers, but felt compelled to and slowly wrote exactly what he was saying. The words above tell the story. I am very sad about what has happened to most of the preachers. They are fair game when the teach false doctrines. Listen to any preacher. They will tell you what is most important. Their words or God's words. Just try counting. You will discover God has very little to say in the churches of today. We just do not know how far we have fallen. Do not look to man. Love in Christ, Warren

    1. I agree with your critique. Stanley was popular about 15 years ago. Even then his teachings just didn't sound right. False teachers can be very convincing if we want to hear what will make us feel better, but not convicted.
He was a 'feel good' preacher; def not filled with the Holy Spirit then, and I doubt now. When the Holy Spirit controls us, we cannot teach error, but we can discern it better.

    2. It is very sad that the filling of the Holy Spirit and his gifts have been ignored. It took me many years to understand this. I met some wacky and sinful people who claimed to be filled with the Holy Spirit, but I also came to see clearly that the Christians I wanted to pray for me also believed in the gifts of the Spirit and most, if not all, spoke in tongues. I received the gift while praying in 2010, and I am 58.

  3. Respectfully, you may have took part of his words, but you were not all-inclusive on what he said and what Stanley truly believes (which is homeosexuality is a sin). I would encourage you to post the full Stanley video on your blog here ("Can a homeosexual go to heaven" Dated Oct 11th 2012,(Utube))to give your readers full disclosure of what he says. God Bless Debbie

  4. Dear Sister, I quoted Mr. Stanley's words in context. It is easy to call some actions a sin, but Jesus did more than that and said in Revelation 21: 7The person who conquers will inherit these things. I will be his God, and he will be my son. 8But people who are cowardly, unfaithful, detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars will find themselves in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.” Mr. Stanley told a practicing homosexual that he would lose his reward in heaven, but Jesus said those who practice such sins will find themselves in the lake that burns with fire and sulfer. It would appear that Mr. Stanley could have the blood of this young man on his hands. He deceived him about the severity of his sin.

  5. "But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it -- the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus". (Romans 3: 21-25). We are all sinners and we all need the Lord's grace and mercy. A homeosexual can come to salvation and repentance through Christ just as the thief on the cross did. Sanctification is a process and while we all strive not to sin, we do all still sin. This would be no different for a gay man who might be having difficulty with his temptation but is striving to be Holy in the Lord. I would agree that if a homeosexual has no desire to change his lifestyle (as Stanley suggested) than maybe the sincerity upon salvation was not there and therefore the man is not saved. Only God knows the heart of the man.

  6. Dear Sister, you are quoting out of context. If your first statement is "full understanding", every one is going to heaven. What did Jesus tell the woman taken in adultery? "Stop sinning". What did he tell the lame man? "stop sinning or something worse will happen to you". What is worse than being lame for 38 yrs? Hell. Paul asks us "how can we who have died to sin, live any longer therein"? This is the problem with the false teachers of today. As Charles Stanley, they are tickling the ears. When speaking to the Christians about sins, Paul says "and such were some of you". Matthew 16:24 ISV "Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone wants to follow me, he must deny himself, pick up his cross, and follow me continuously". Adulterers, fornicators, and homosexuals go to hell, unless they turn from their sin and follow Jesus.

    1. I'm glad you mentioned about Jesus telling people to "sin no more", why has this been lost in the scriptures, why do people choose to oversee this, too many people are allowing sin into the church! The homosexual should put away his sin and walk in righteousness, if he still has desires, this is his cross take it up daily ask God to renew your mind, take capture every thought and make it obdedient to jesus, it will become easier to focus on Jesus than the evil desires of the flesh.

    2. Right on. I am glad you understand this! We are in Apostasy. The preachers, for the most part, are not warning the people. They are busy building their entertainment centers they call church. We have the false money teachers and seeker friendly teachers who were likely never called by God to teach. Now we are seeing the ecumenical movement where the churches are joining with the Catholics. The Catholics have never been a Christian church. God bless you!

  7. I thank you for your perspective. While I'm not sure I agree with you, I will continue to search for Truth (that is how I found your blog in the first place). I appreciate your sincerity and your devotion to Jesus as seen through your blogs. I pray that you are blessed for it and that your blogs will continue to be used to spread the Good News of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Debbie

  8. Dear Sister, you are wise to search for the Truth. Do not listen to man. Satan has had 2,000, years to pervert what Jesus and his disciples taught. You can trust the Word of God. Stay humble before the Lord and "guard your heart above all things, for out of it come the issues of life". Stay away from TV, worldly music and movies. Protect your eyes and ears from the filth of this generation. Do not love the things of this world system. Stay away from any sexual sins. You are precious to the Lord. Stay close to his side. Continue loving your neighbor. I want to see you with great reward! Stay humble. You have been a blessing to me with your kind words and encouragement. I pray the Lord blesses you mightily!! Your fellow servant, Warren.

  9. Warren - would it be ok to email you concerning your view on the Lord's willingness to physically heal? While I've been a Christian for many years, my deeper search for Christ has been the result of significant physical suffering. I wouldn't bombard you with too many details, but do have some Biblical questions and a request for prayer. Thank you, Debbie

  11. Charles Stanley does indeed teach a false gospel. He clearly and plainly teaches in his book "Eternal Security" that a Christian may live a life of sin or even totally and permanently deny and disown the Lord Jesus and yet will still go to heaven. For Stanley, salvation requires merely a momentary faith without repentance. And that faith is merely that Jesus died for our sins. No commitment or allegiance is necessary. This is the cheap grace message that merely whitewashes our sins and supposedly saves us from the wrath of God rather than truly saves us from our sins. Add to this inadequate salvation the doctrine of 'once saved always saved' you have a deadly concoction that damns many to hell.

  12. It is so very sobering. I was raised in Baptist Calvinism. None of the denominations can be trusted. I believe the Lord impressed on me that I had no clue how far we are already into the The Apostasy He foretold. One of the biggest eye openers was when I saw that Paul's warning about what would happen after death. Wolves would come into the church and devistate the sheep. No preacher can be trusted with our souls.

  13. Hi, I understand your premise and feelings about churches ,etc..I am getting sick of hearing so -called 'homosexuals' getting slammed. It's as if that were the only sin in the world..pre-marital sex is a sin if not done with the one has married, having sex other than strictly for love in a balanced way is a sin even if married, over-eating is gluttony and is then a sin, oh let's not forget about gettting divorced. Why aren't we slamming every single divorced couple ? Is there sin any less worse? Who says which is which? where does it end? Only to make a point.. Is it dangerous to be judging a person on their ONE: sex life and TWO: God born and given sexuality? What about bi-exuals, what about people born with two sex organs, what about people born into the wrong sex body/ the list is much longer than this one isolated word which in my translation does not read Homosexual but child molester... That is like the pharisees whom, "You do not enter the kingdom of heaven nor do you allow others to enter!"..All this talk is going to turn away people from Christ whom he would redeem because HE was the one who made them to begin with in that way" I really think this is a dangerous territory, esp. considering Paul in his writings was mostly referring to the activities that were going on in ROME at the time, these were ungodly unbelieving people to begin with. Do you not realize there can be people who have been born genuitly from above that might well be 'gay' but have never had sex with another male in the ENTIRE LIFE and are virgins because of fear of being judged by a cruel world? This is a sad state of affairs brother. It is good to see someone who Loves Our Lord, Shalom and 'work out our Salvation with Feat and Trembling" and not someone else s. (P.S. we cannot refer back to the OT either, that was for the Israelite at that time, for if we do then we must refer to ALL of them, which means people need to be killed). This is getting out of hand...beside, it's freeing not to be concerned about such minutae. My territory lately has been The Prosperity Gospel, the all is Grace and Seed of Faith movements and the big mega churches..now we are talking huge congregations of people that are but polyanna's of Christ, though we can't judge, we just never know in those regards when The Lord might act in amazing way in their life. Judge with Righteous judgement I believe was his words..but more so, he said, Follow Me...that might be because he is also saying "keep your nose out of other peoples sex lives "l

    1. Stephen, All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. God does not make homosexuals, fornicators, liars, etc. In Adam we all died spiritually, but in Christ we can be made alive through repentance to God the Father and obeying what his son said to do and said what to do.

I was guilty of several sins that keep a person out of the Kingdom of God, but I found myself in great pain and went to the Father and surrendered my life to him and seek to obey him. I do not practice the sins that are listed by Paul and Jesus. I do not want to sin period, but if I sin I confess it and get back on track.

Jesus said in Revelation 22: 14Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. 15Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

Paul said in 1 Timothy 1: 8But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers 10and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, 11according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

Paul says in 1 Corinthian 6: 9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU, BUT YOU WERE WASHED, BUT YOUR WERE SANCTIFIED, BUT YOU WERE JUSTIFIEDi n the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

  14. so if im saved and i commit a sin and dont repent and i die im going to hell? all sin is sin no matter what the sin?? please explain.

  15. There are different degrees of sin. We should never sin, but we will. There are sins that if we continue in them, we will not be able to enter the Kingdom of God.

Sins that keep us out of the Kingdom of God, heaven, are given in the New Testament. These are some from Jesus. Ask Jesus to forgive you and if you are committing any of these, stop doing them and follow Jesus. He will receive you!

Revelation 21:6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

    God bless you!
    Warren

  16. That is what happens when we allow the world to influence what happens in church than vice versa. It is time we took God at His word and simply followed his instructions without fear or favor.

  17. Amen. We are in apostasy. Ear tickling is the rule of the day from "pastors".

  18. Dear Warren, you are right, such "teachers" (as C.Stanley, Joyce Meyer and others) cannot tell something true, because they have very bad behavior - Charles divorced, Joyce divorced and loved money and so on. They are not able to preach the truth, they are blind human beings because evil' "lifestyle" overcomes them and possesses (by?) their mindsets (souls). (Sorry, for my mistakes - I am Russian, unfortunately.) Worse thing is they do (compel to) listeners to be as zombies.

  19. The scriptures tell us the ones who follows such teachers want their ears tickled.
