11But do not include younger widows on your list.g For whenever their natural desires cause them to lose their devotion to the Messiah,h they want to remarry. 12They receive condemnation because they have set aside their prior commitment to the Messiah.i 13At the same time, they also learn how to be lazy while going from house to house. Not only this, but they even become gossips and keep busy by interfering in other people’s lives, saying things they should not say.
- have children,
- manage their homes,
- and not give the enemy any chance to ridicule them.
After addressing the widows, Paul addresses the men who are Elders. Then making a general statement he says the following.
24The sins of some people are obvious, leading them to judgment. The sinst of others follow them there. 25In the same way, good actions are obvious, and those that are not cannot remain hidden.
I ask you why does Paul talk about turning away, sins, and good actions if all we have to do is say a sinners prayer and from then on grace covers everything?:
The rejection of verses like the one discussing widows who had turned away is part of the reason why teachers such as Charles Stanley are so confused and cannot be trusted. (see my blog Jan. 17, 2013) I do not try to explain away what the Holy Spirit had written. I believe what he wrote is for his children and can be trusted.
