The Biblical History of the World
Have you ever wondered about eternity past? John 1:1-14 gives us some factual information to quench our thirst for that truth. These answers show the big bang origin of the universe is bogus. The personal God of the bible is the creator of our universe. Jesus existed before coming to earth, but not as part of creation, such as an angel is. Here is a text expository sermon for teachers and all Christians to be blessed by.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
COMMENT: Jesus existed before he was born in Bethlehem. In eternity past he was the Word, he was with God [the Father], which shows he isn’t the same person as the Father. Jesus, the Word, was God [by nature]. When Christians say they believe Jesus is God, they mean Jesus is God by NATURE. Jesus is not the Father. Jesus was NOT Michael the archange lbefore coming to earth.

He was with God in the beginning. (John 1:2)
COMMENT: The Word was with God the Father.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:3)
COMMENT: Jesus made all things that are created. Rev. 3:14 shows he is the architect of creation.

In him was life, and that life was the light of men. (John 1:4)
COMMENT: In the Word [Jesus] was life. What type of “life”? 1 John 1:2; 5:12 shows that life was/is eternal life. Also, eternal life [Jesus] in redeemed people is their “light.”

The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. (John 1:5)
COMMENT: Unsaved people can’t understand the things of God. Specifically, the gospel itself is foolishness to them (Rom. 1:16).

There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. (John 1:6,7)
COMMENT: John the Baptist was sent forth from God. His mission was to witness concerning Jesus. He came to help people believe on Jesus.

He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. (John 1:8)
COMMENT: John was only a witness to the light [Jesus]. Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12).

The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. (John 1:9)
COMMENT: Many counterfeits have come and gone, but JESUS is the "true light," unlike all the others. He gives light to man.

He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. (John 1:10,11)
COMMENT: Jesus [the Word] was in the world and the world was made through him, but sadly people didn’t recognize him as such. His own [the Jews] didn’t receive him.

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God -- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. (John 1:12,13)
COMMENT: The ones who did receive him by "believing in his name," became children of God and born of God. NOTE: They weren’t children of God until they believed in Jesus' name. 1 John 3:10 states they were children of the devil before that! Also, one receives Jesus by faith in him, not by taking communion, as Catholics think!

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
COMMENT: The Word [Jesus] became flesh [when born in Bethlehem] and dwelt among us. The Apostle John and others saw Jesus’ unique glory. He was full of grace and truth and is God’s only begotten Son [unique one of a kind Son].The names given to Jesus in John 1:1-14 (The Word and True Light) are a tiny listing of the overall names and titles which the Lord Jesus uniquely holds. His many names reveal his significance in everything from creation to salvation and beyond. They help reflect who Jesus Christ really is.
